Stratford-upon-Avon Christmas Lights will be switched on at dusk on Thursday 19 November 2020.There will be late night shopping in the town centre and on Waterside Christmas Markets with a Street Food Court from 12 noon until 8pm, with stalls selling seasonal gifts, fine foods, arts & crafts, delicious street food and drinks - on Thursday 3, 10 & 17 December (pending updated Government advice). There are also regular weekend markets with a Christmas theme - Charter Market on Fridays (food, clothing, gifts), Urban Mix Market on Saturdays (home produced food, flowers, vintage, fine art & more) and Upmarket on Sundays (unusual products, art, street food). The town's Christmas Lights stay on until the early hours of 6 January.
Stratford's award-winning guided Town Walk (bookable for household / bubble groups) takes place any time every day, including Christmas Day. Shakespeare Distillery, Stratford's independent artisan spirits producer, offers guided Tours with Gin Tasting and a Gin School where you can distill, bottle and label your very own gin to take home with you - an original idea for Christmas gifts.
The Royal Shakespeare Theatre is just a ten minute stroll from Heritage Mews. The Royal Shakespeare Company's winter show - a new family musical, The Magician’s Elephant, is postponed until winter 2021. However, the RSC is planning a programme of live performances in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre throughout December 2020 and January 2021, with socially distanced, reduced capacity audiences - to be announced in November.
Christmas Lights, Markets and Late Night Festive Shopping in nearby beautiful Cotswold villages: in Broadway, the 'Jewel of the Cotswolds', on Friday 27 November (cancelled) and 4 December 2020, enjoy late night shopping with Christmas Lights, carols, street entertainment and great independent shops and eateries. Famous Moreton in Marsh Christmas Market takes place on Saturday 28 November 2020 (cancelled) from 9am, with Christmas Lights providing festive cheer in the town centre. Enjoy Chipping Campden Christmas Market on Saturday 5 December 2020, with enticing stalls selling a variety of arts and crafts and unique gifts in the Market Square, Upper High Street and Town Hall - from 10.30am until 7pm. The market inside the Town Hall continues on Sunday 6 December.
Christmas at Warwick Castle: from 5 December 2020 to 3 January 2021, experience the magic of Christmas at the Castle with a new Christmas Lights trail with thousands of sparkling lights illuminating the spectacular grounds and gardens, a fantastic ice rink in the grounds and a dazzling 20ft high Christmas tree gracing the majestic Great Hall. Open every day (except Christmas Day) with Covid-safe measures and social distancing in place.
Nearby National Trust properties are open to visitors again. At Packwood House, Baddesley Clinton, Coughton Court and Upton House, the houses are open to visitors as well as the grounds, garden, shop and cafe. At Charlecote Park the house remains closed until 2021 but the beautiful parkland and cafe are open. Check the websites for details of opening days and times; pre-booked timed tickets are advisable at busy times, particularly weekends. Famous Hidcote gardens are open at weekends in November and December (cafe and shop too) - pre-booking is essential. NB: during lockdown the only gardens and parklands will be open.
Christmas at Blenheim Palace (an hour's drive from Heritage Mews) takes place from 20 November 2020 to 3 January 2021 (new dates to be announced) the Palace will be open for you to enjoy the lavish state rooms including the Cecily Brown Contemporary Art Exhibition. There will be some decorated Christmas trees throughout for a little festive feel. An Illuminated Light Trail lights up the Formal Gardens with an unforgettable festive trail of lights, and talented street food vendors offer a variety of tempting food and drink.
Living Crafts for Christmas at Blenheim Palace: 12 to 15 November 2020 (cancelled). Enjoy Christmas shopping in style at Blenheim's wonderful craft fair, with around 160 British designer-makers showcasing high quality contemporary crafts not found on the High Street.
Warwick Winter Food Market takes place on Sunday 22 November 2020 (cancelled) between 10am and 5pm, showcasing up to 40 traders in a Christmas themed market in the town centre. Warwick is just a 20 minute drive from Heritage Mews.
