LATEST NEWS - The Royal Shakespeare Theatre reopens in November 2010: take a short break in Stratford-upon-Avon from November onwards and you will be able to explore the Royal Shakespeare Company's transformed theatres - less than a ten minute riverside stroll from Heritage Mews. Reopening in the third week in November (date to be confirmed), there will be a series of on-stage events, exhibitions and tours (details available in September). The building will be more than just a place to enjoy a performance on stage. A striking blend of existing 1930s architecture and contemporary design, it will be home to a stunning roof top restaurant, a riverside walkway and cafe, exhibition space and a new theatre tower, from which you will be able to enjoy far reaching views of the Warwickshire countryside and Shakespeare's home town. The first full production on stage will be in February 2011.

You do not need a car to enjoy a short break in Stratford-upon-Avon. From Heritage Mews you can walk into town along the riverside footpath past an old pedestrian chain ferry (the last of its kind in Britain) and The Courtyard Theatre.  Stop off to take in the atmosphere at the celebrated Dirty Duck pub, with its terrace overlooking the river and inside, walls of signed photographs of Royal Shakespeare Company actors, past and present. Continue along the path to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, reopening in November 2010, and be one of the first to enjoy the views from the new theatre tower.

Or to enjoy Stratford's varied and beautiful architecture, head into town along Old Town, past Hall's Croft and down Church Street, passing many fine half-timbered buildings, including the alms houses, Guildhall and the Garrick, Stratford's oldest inn.

Visit Shakespeare’s Birthplace and two other beautifully preserved Shakespeare Houses and Gardens in the town centre - open every day. Take a City Sightseeing open-top Bus Tour - the bus stops outside Hall’s Croft – 3 or 4 minutes walk. The bus tours the town centre sites and nearby villages, including a visit to Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Shottery and Mary Arden's House in Wilmcote, where you can enjoy falconry displays and experience Tudor life at neighbouring Palmer's Farm.

Visit Shakespeare’s grave in Holy Trinity Church, one of England’s most beautiful parish churches situated on the banks of the River Avon. You can see the spire from the cottage – two or three minutes walk.

See a play at The Royal Shakespeare Company’s award-winning Courtyard Theatre – just 6 minutes walk from Heritage Mews. There are also interesting back-stage tours. The RSC's 2010 winter show is Matilda a Musical, a specially written musical version of Roald Dahl's famous novel. This runs from 9 November 2010 until 30 January 2011. RSC Season Calender
